OLYMPIC and Commonwealth diver Peter Waterfield has re-appointed Somerset-based Porcupine PR to handle his publicity in the run up to this year’s (2010) Commonwealth Games and the 2012 Olympic Games.
Porcupine PR, which has its headquarters in Bridgwater, has been working with the Olympian since early 2005 and has had its contract with the diver extended by a further two years.
Rachel Burks, Managing Director of Porcupine PR, said: “We’re delighted to be continuing our work with Peter, who along with his former partner, Leon Taylor won the first medal for Great Britain at the 2004 Olympics.
“He is a great athlete and going forward looks set to be representing the country at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi this October, as well as the 2012 Olympic Games in London.”
Peter has recently returned to form after an operation on his shoulder in November, 2008.
The 28-year-old won three gold medals at the British Gas National Cup in Sheffield last month (February). He was awarded a score of 523.65 in the men’s 10 metre individual dive, beating World Champion Tom Daley to first place by 40.05 points.
At the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) Diving Grand Prix in Germany, which also took place in February, Peter scooped a silver medal.
He beat current Olympic champion, Matt Mitcham, who won the gold medal for Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, in the semi-final and the final of the 10 metre individual platform event with a score of 510.20.
Porcupine PR’s new remit for the coming 24 months will include updating Peter’s official website, following the progress of the diver and also helping him secure sponsorship.
Peter, who lives and trains in Southampton, said: “I am looking forward to continuing my relationship with Porcupine PR in the run up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.”
Porcupine PR celebrates its 16th anniversary this year. It was launched in 1994 by former Guardian media journalist Rachel Burks. The company specialises in retail clients and has in the past helped large national companies, such as the supermarket chain Tesco, with their PR projects.
The company’s key regional clients include garden centres Sanders GardenWorld in Brent Knoll and Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre at Monkton Heathfield, both in Somerset, and leading Bridgwater recruitment specialist, Hero Recruitment.
Nationally and internationally, Porcupine PR also represents online retailer www.BritishCornerShop.co.uk and international training firm, Adaptis Ltd.
