At the British Nationals I did three good lists of dives in the prelims, semis and finals, which allowed me to qualify for the World Cup in February at the Olympic Pool in China.
The Olympic Pool is probably the most spectacular pool I’ve ever seen and very nice to dive in. Again I produced three good lists of dives. The semi was especially good. I finished eighth overall in the final and this qualified me for the World Series and the Olympics. I can’t wait to get back to the pool in Beijing and experience it as an Olympic venue.
I went to the USA in May. I wasn’t sure I was going to be fit to dive as my shoulder injury was playing up. But a dose of sunshine got me back on track and I performed well and was only beaten by the World Championship silver medallist, Olympic silver medallist and World Cup Champion!!
Next I went to the World Series in Sheffield (not quite so exotic! And not so much sun!!) where I finished third in a field of the top eight divers in the world.
Rostock, Germany was the next stop where I had prelims at 9am – and dived as if I was still in bed! I am not an early morning person!! However, I managed to get myself 12th place by doing a reverse three and a half somersault with tuck, which scored a perfect 10 – so I was through to the semis. I then won my semi final with a good performance, which I did again in the final but ended up in fourth place just missing out on a medal.
Just before going out to Rostock, I heard that my synchro partner, Leon, with whom I got my Olympic silver medal, had to quit the sport due to his ongoing injuries. It is a real shame that we can’t therefore do synchro at the Olympics, but it does give me a chance to concentrate on the individual event, which I am really looking forward to.
On the home front, I have the excitement of our second baby on the way! The baby is actually due on 1st August (we think!) so Tania and I are both hoping it will be early like Lewis, so that I am here for his/her arrival.
Dates for your diary:
