Peter invites budding divers to compete at the quays

OLYMPIC and Commonwealth diver Peter Waterfield is inviting budding young divers from across the country to compete in a diving competition being organised by Southampton Diving Academy next month (October).

Members from diving clubs across the UK are being encouraged to take part in the event, entitled ‘Peter Waterfield Novice Invitational’, which will take place at The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex in Southampton on Saturday, October 6 from 11am until 6pm.

Twenty-six-year-old Peter, who is President of Southampton Diving Academy, said: “This is a great opportunity for youngsters aged from eight to 16-years-old to compete with other divers of a similar age who are all in the developmental stages of the sport.

“This event will give those who attend the opportunity to make the qualifying standard to be able to take part in the National Skills final being held in Plymouth in July 2008.”

Peter, who trains at The Quays in Southampton, has secured the British team a place in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing after his success at the FINA World Championships earlier in the year.
